• The word “Mass” came from the Latin word “Missa” –
used in the concluding rite of the Mass in Latin.
• A sacrament of the Eucharist mostly celebrated by the
Roman Catholic Church.
• Its purpose is for praising and thanksgiving.

• A song traditionally associated with the Visayan region.
• A debate or dialogue song in which a woman and a man
compete to see who is better at improvising romantic verses.
• Written in triple meter.
• An example of Balitaw is “Sa Libis ng Nayon”- Santiago
Suarez and “Arimunding-Munding” – Severino Reyes.
C. KUMINTANG
• A popular wedding song in Batangas.
• Tagalog national chant about love and courtship and a
dance-song performed by pairs of women and men.
• Sometimes, known as a War song.
• An example of Kumintang is “Mutya ng Pasig”
written by Deogracias A. Rosario and composed by
Nicanor Abelardo.
D. KUNDIMAN
• Kundiman came from the word “Kung hindi man”
or “though I am not worthy”.
• Some famous Filipino kundiman composers are
Francisco Santiago, Nicanor Abelardo, Bonifacio
Abdon, Francisco Buencamino, and Angel Peña.
• Examples of Kundiman are “Pilipinas Kong Mahal”
– Francisco Santiago” and “Nasaan Ka Irog”-
Nicanor Abelardo.
