Mechanical behavior of a sandwich panel
composed of hybrid skins and novel glass
fiber reinforced polymer truss core

• Mineral-glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) skins and a GFRP truss core
• The compressive and shear specific strengths of the panels were assessed
Manufacturing process
• Two stage process
• GFRP connectors were firstly inserted in the polyurethane foam
• The second stage of the manufacturing process involved firstly the positioning of
a non-crimp glass fabric
• Then, the vacuum infusion of a vinyl-ester matrix was performed to lead to a
truss core GFRP sandwich structure
Tests
• Compression test
• Shear test
• Three point bending test Illustration of the specimen failure under compression loading.

Effect of temperature on the compressive behavior
of carbon fiber composite pyramidal truss cores
sandwich panels with reinforced frames

• The effect of temperature on the out-of-plane compressive properties

and failure mechanism of carbon fiber/epoxy composite pyramidal
truss cores sandwich panels (CF/CPTSP).
