TYPES OF MAGNETIC CERAMICS

MAGNETIC CERAMICS
Diamagnetic Paramagnetic Ferromagnetic
• Induced magnetic • Alignment of magnetic • Spontaneous alignment
dipoles reversed to dipoles in the direction of permanent magnetic
external magnetic field of external magnetic dipoles within a domain
field in crystal lattice
NAME OF MAGNETIC CERAMIC

Ferrite
Ceramic material made by mixing and firing large proportions of iron (iii) oxide combine by small proportions of
one or more additional element such as
1. Barium

2. Manganese

3. Nickel

4. Zinc
Magnetocrystalline anisotropy means if it takes
more energy to magnetize it in certain directions
than in others
PROPERTIES OF FERRITES Coercivity means he resistance of a magnetic
material to changes in magnetization to the field
intensity necessary to demagnetize the fully
magnetized material.

Hard Ferrites Soft ferrites

Properties Strontium Ferrite (SrO.6Fe2O3) Manganese Zinc Ferrite (MnaZn1-aFe2O4)

Permanent ferrite magnets : Iron Low coercivity : magnetization can

oxide and strontium carbonate easily reverse direction without
dissipating much energy
High magnetic permeability
Low losses at high frequency
High coercivity due to its
magnetocrystalline anistropy
