OT TECHNIQUE

1.ZONING CONCEPT IN OT
• UN RESTRICTED ZONE
- Changing room, reception area, pantry
- Street cloth is allowed
• SEMI RESTRICTED ZONE
- Induction room, recovery, store,office
- Traffic limited to proper attire

• RESTRICTED ZONE
- Fully attire must perform
- OR, scrub room, sterile store
- Strile procedure is to be perform here.
- Humidity 50% - 60 %
- Temperature 18ᵒc - 22 ᵒc
OT ATTIRE
• All OT personnel
were required to
change street
clothes before
entering OT.

• Ot attire is a part of
aseptic enviroment in
ot.
PURPOSE OF THE OT ATTIRE
• To provide protection from exposure to infection
to the patient and also to the surgical team.
COMPONENT OF THE OT ATTIRE
SURGICAL
SCRUBBING,GOWNING AND
GLOVING
• Is the recommanded practices for all
personnel entering contact with sterile
field.

• Mandatory for the sterile team before the


surgical interventation.

• Break in the technique will increase the


potential of infection to the surgical
patient.
SURGICAL SCRUB

• Surgical scrub is a process of removing or


decreasing from the hands and the
forearms as many no: of bacterial count
and resident skin flora as possible to a
safe level of surgical acceptance by
mechanical scrub with the help of a scrub
brush and with a chemical antiseptic.

• Done before gowning and gloving and


before each surgical procedure.
SURGICAL SCRUB PROCESS
• Surgical scrub consist of two
process, these are as follow:

A.Mechanical scrubbing
process removes microorganism
by friction & reduces resident flora
and bacterial count from the skin
B. CHEMICAL PROCESS
-process inactives microorganism with a
chemical antiseptic

- Prevents the growth of microorganism


by it antiseptic action.

PREPARATION BEFORE
SCRUBBING
• Nails should be cut short and free of dirt.
• Check for skin of the hands & forearms for
infections, cut,abrasions, burns and skin
break on the skin surface
• remove all jewelry from fingers, wrist
• Be sure all hair is covered by head wear
• Face mask adjust must snugly and
comfortable over the nose
• Clean eye glass if worn
• Open Sterile gloves
• plastic apron wear in
every case
• Shoe cover
PROCEDURE OF THE SURGICAL
SCRUB

• The following are the step of the scrub:


STEP 1
- Wet the hands and forearms
- Apply the antiseptic detergent
- Apply 7 step movement
STEP 2

• Wet the hands and the forearms


• Take a clean scrub brush
• Scrub the nails -10 strokes
DRYING THE HANDS AND ARM

• Reach down to open the sterile package


• pick up towel with hand by one corner
• Do not drip water to the pack
• Be aware of the enviroment to prevent
contamination
• Grasp the opposing corner of the towel
with other hand and open the towel full
length
• Use one end of the towel to dry one hand
and arm
• Use a circumferential motion to rub from
hand to upper arm
• Do not rub back from hands to upper arm
• repeat the procedure to drying the second
arm
PROCEDURE OF GOWNING
• Sterile gown is donned immediately after
drying of hands with sterile towel
• reach gown to the sterile pack and lift the
folded gown directly upward
• step back away from the table into an
abstructed area to provide a wide margin
of safety while gowning
• Extend both arms into the armholes
simultaneously
• Holding the inside front of
the gown just at the
armhholes with both
hands
• Let the gown unfold,
keeping the inside of the
gown toward the body
and the hands in the arm
holes
• Discard the gown if the
top gown drop
inadvertently
• Extend both arms into the
armholes simultaneously
• The circulator behind bring the
gown over the shoulder by
eaching the inside to the
shoulder and arm seams
• Gown is pulled on, leaving the
cuffs of the sleeves extended
over the hands
• Do not full cuff over tha hands
• secure the back of the gown-
tying the string
PROCEDURE OF GLOVING
• Done immediately
after gowning
• 2 methods use -
closed and open
method

• Gown is removed before gloves
• protect clean arm and scrub suit when
removing gown from contamination
• With gloves on , grasp the front shoulder
of gown and pull forward.
• When removing gloves - use glove to
glove method and skin to skin method.
