What kind of media institution might distribute

your media product and why?

A production company that could produce and finance our film would be Film4. It’s an UK film distribution
Company. There’s a possibility of it broadcasting our film in local movie theatres around the country. It would be
classed as an Art Film as it wouldn’t achieve the highest income profit because of the production budget figure.
If it were to do better with ticket sales than originally expected than the chance to digitally distribute the film
(DVD and Blu-Ray) would be possible. Our film would be distributed in this way as it would allow customers to
have the opportunity to view it in their own home. An advantage of this would be that the advertising and
promotional aspects of it would gain customers’ attention; bonus features such deleted scenes, interviews and
commentary. However people who’ve viewed it may not like it enough to buy it for their own viewing.

Film4 have distributed past films such as Shallow Grave, Trainspotting and This
is England. The genres of these three films are Crime, Thriller and Drama. Our
film would suit other films that they’ve produced. These films are also very
successful with past and current UK audiences. Comparing our film to the other
three is that ours is a Thriller so it would attract more Thriller fanatics.
Who would be the audience for your media
product?
Our target audience are 15-29 male and females. We made
decisions based on making sure our viewers would be kept
Name: Gemma Johnson
intrigued to the storyline of the Thriller, this would be done
Age: 19
by asking the question of if it’s interesting or not.
Occupation: Student
Job: Part-time job at a Garden Centre
Favourite Films: She’s The Man and Bruce Almighty
Favourite Thrillers: Inception and Public Enemies
Why?: The storyline, themes and actors are what
interested me into watching them.
Name: Nathan Jones
Age: 17
Occupation: Engineer
Job: Full time job in an Engineering Company
Favourite Films: Never Back Down and Men In Black
Favourite Thrillers: The Dark Knight and Fight Club
Why?: They keep me interested till the end.

We decided to classify our film at a 15 certificate. Although it isn’t explicit in a horrific way (the deaths involved
aren’t gruesome) the storyline can cause disruption among viewers as it’s quite realistic as the characters intentions,
actions and the setting are convincing. Therefore we decided to categorize it as a 15 film.

I believe it would appeal to viewers outside our aimed target audience. Viewers above the age of 29 would be able
to connect with the characters (woman shown in opening) as they’re at a similar age.
