Camping

BY: JOHN FLOYD MANGADAP

What is camping?
Camping is an outdoor activity
involving overnight stays away from
home in a shelter, such as tent.
Generally participants leave
developed areas to spend time
outdoors in more natural ones in
pursuit of activities providing them
enjoyment.
What is needed to start camping?
• Tent (and footprint, stakes)
• Sleeping bags
• Sleeping pads
• Camping pillow
• Headlamps or flashlights (and
extra batteries)
• Camp chairs
• Camp table (if no picnic table)
• Lantern ( and mantles and
fuel/batteries if needed)
What you should not do while camping?

• Choosing the wrong sized tent

• Cooking inside your tent
• Lack of sufficient lighting
• Location
• Don’t pick the lowest spot
• Arriving at the campsite late
• More from wide open space
• Not trying your kit out
beforehand
What are benefits of camping?
Your brain functions better with
this increased level of oxygen and
releases serotine, which makes you
feel happy and lowers your stress
level. Fresh air has other health
benefits, such as improving your
blood pressure, aiding digestion,
and boosting the immune system
Types of camping
Tent camping

This is the most basic kind of

camping and involves heading off
into countryside, pitching a tend and
sleeping there for one or more
nights. Its possible to stay on a
campsite, in the wood or on a beach
among otheres
Survivalist camping
This is the most extreme form of
camping and should only be
attempted by extremely competent
and experienced campers.
Essentially, the only aim of this
type of activity is to be
completely self sufficient for a
certain amount of time before
returning.
Canoe camping
Canoe camping combines much of
appeal of backpacking, such as
freedom and self-sufficiency, with
several added advantages associated
with water travel. One main
advantage is that participants travel
by canoe, weight is not so important
so it is possible to carry more
equipment.
RV and Van camping
Camping with an RV or Van
combines the pleasures of being
outside and close to nature with the
mobility of having a vehicle. While
some people deride it as not really
being “camping” at all, it is suitable
for people who like luxury when
they camp and is popular with older
people.
