LAWS ON ELDERLY

RA 7432 (1992)

 Aims to motivate and encourage the senior citizens to


contribute to nation building and to encourage their
families and communities they live with to reaffirm the
valued Filipino tradition of caring for their senior citizens
  Provisions:
◦ 20% discount on transportation, lodging, restaurant,
medicines, cinemas/ leisure places
◦ Tax exemption (provided does not exceed poverty level)
◦ Free training for socioeconomic programs of OSCA
◦ Free medical and dental services in government
facilities
◦ Continuation of benefits from GSIS/SSS and Pag-ibig
RA 7876 (1995)
“Senior Citizens Center Act of the Philippines”

 - Established senior citizens centers in every city and


municipality of country. The centers serve as venues for
the delivery of integrated and comprehensive services to
older persons
“Philippine Plan of Action for Older
Persons” (1999)
Addresses 8 major areas of concern:
1. Older persons and the family
2. Social position of older persons
3. Health and nutrition
4. Housing, transportation and environment
5. Income security, maintenance, and employment
6. Social services and the community
7. Continuing education/learning
8. Older persons and the market
RA 9257 (2003) –
“Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2003

- Grants additional benefits and privileges to senior citizens


without qualifying whether they do not earn less than
P60,000, which was a prerequisite under the old law
RA 9994 (2010) - “Expanded Senior
Citizens Act of 2010
 provide 20% discount on the following:
◦ medicine and drug purchases
◦ eyeglasses, hearing aids, dentures, prosthetics, other
equipment
◦ medical and dental services in private facilities
◦ Professional fees of attending physicians and licensed
health care workers
◦ Free vaccinations for indigent senior citizens
◦ 5% discount on utilities (100kmh of electricity; 30m3 of
water)
