IF CLAUSES

ZERO CONDITIONAL It is used in real situations of facts.

WHEN PRESENT TENSE + PRESENT TENSE

When (if) I go on vacations, I always go to the same place.


I always go to the same place when (if) I go on vacations.

FIRST CONDITIONAL It´s likely to happen (consider real)

IF
WHEN PRESENT TENSE + FUTURE + V INF.
If you use when means that is more certain. It is used just for
zero and first contidional (when or if).

Example: If you don´t hurry, you´ll be late.


You´ll be late if you don´t hurry.
SECOND CONDITIONAL Is an imaginary situation but
there´s a little remote or a little
possibility. (imaginary present)

IF PAST TENSE + WOULD + VERB. INF.

Example: If he had money, he would buy a new car.

He would buy a new car if he had money.

If were/ was…

You can say if (I/he/she/it) were or was…

It´s cold. If I were you, I´d put a coat on. (or If I was…)

I´d put a coat on if I were you.


THIRD CONDITIONAL Imaginary situation in the past.

IF PAST PERFECT + WOULD HAVE + VERB PAST


PARTICIPLE

Example: If I had known you were in hospital, I would have


gone to see you.

I would have gone to see you if I had known you were in


hospital.

MIXED CONDITIONALS It had a repercusion in the present.

IF PAST PERFECT + WOULD + VERB INF. (now)

Example: If I hadn´t finished my career, I wouldn´t work as a


tour guide.

I wouldn´t work as a tour guide if I hadn´t finished my career.
