SOCIAL

LITERACY
• Social Literacy concerns in the
development of social skills, knowledge
and positive human values that enables
human too act positively and responsively
in range of complex social settings.
• How one behaves in a morally upright, just
and equitable w/ a view of promoting
positive and productive relations that are
free from prejudices.
• Morally Upright – refers to thoughts, speech,
actions and motivations that adheres the standard
of right and wrong.
• Just– refers to speech, actions and behaviors that
are in line with a fixed standard of justice - a
system that promotes & rewards good & punishes
wrong doing.
• Equality– connotes a fixed standard of treatment
for all people, equally seeks the good of others &
labors to find means to give what people need than
saying that people gets the same things and
amount.
SOCIAL SKILLS – ability to interact
with others in a given social context in
specific ways that are socially acceptable
or valued & personally, mutually and
primarily beneficial to others.
Social Skills 3 Interrelated components :
• social perception
•Social cognition
•Social performance productive relations that are
free from prejudices.
Types of Social Skills a child needs to be

Roles of Parents and Teachers in developing
Social Skills to children
• directly teach – model, roleplay, set opportunities
• Encourage and praise
• Teachers intervene with difficulties – set structured,
guided programs in groups
• Teachers work together with parents
Views on how children learn to live socially?
• NORMATIVE & COMMUNAL – adapts customs
that provides as guide to acts in ways that
minimizes conflicts by voluntary actions
• PRAGMATIC & INDIVIDUALISTIC – social
order is created by explicit & implicit agreements
by self-seeking individuals to avert the worst
consequences of their selfish instincts. Social order
is dependent on sanctions and formal agreement.
Rules are obeyed due to personal advantage.
CONFLICTS:
1. SUBJECTIVE STANDARDS OF MORALITY – truth
and morality are open to individual interpretation i.e. bad
becomes acceptable and good becomes obsolete that
opens to all kinds of abuse.

2.HUMAN NATURE – (inherent human capacity to judge


& make excuses) We believe that people are inherently
good but quick to champion the cause of moral
uprightness justice & equity, insisting others to be judged
according to fix standards but subjective when own
behavior is questioned. We demand justice but makes
excuses.
SITUATIONAL AWARENESS IN PLACES:
•The sensitivity to do what is appropriate in different social
circumstances.
Ability to read social situations.

•Text-speak & technology wherein writing denotes respect
and has enough context by studying particular
communication genre in terms of formality.

1.Setting Financial Goal – Short, Medium and Long-
term goal.
•SHORT is measured in weeks and provides instant
gratification and feedback.
•MEDIUM-TERM can be accomplished in one to six
months & should provide opportunity for reflection and
feedback and require discipline and consistency.
•LONG-TERM can take years

are necessary to build a sustainable spending plan.
There are 3 steps to develop it :
•RECORD – what you are to spend.
•REVIEW – analyze the expenses and what to do
