Daniel Libeskind

• A Polish American
architect.

• Birth date: May 12, 1946.

Jewish Museum

• Jewish Museum in Berlin was founded

on the 24th of January 1933.
• The construction on the new extension
began in November 1992.
• Daniel Libeskind offered a radical and
zigzag design, which was given the
nickname “Blitz”-which means
lightning.
• The two buildings-the  “Kollegienhaus”
and a new building by Libeskind have
no visible connection above ground
and is accessible only via an
underground passage from the old
building.
 Libeskind’s design for the museum was based on
three concepts: i. The impossibility of understanding the
history of Berlin without the enormous intellectual, economic
and cultural contribution made by the Jewish citizens.
ii. The necessity to integrate physically and spiritually the
meaning of the Holocaust.
iii. Only through the acknowledgement of this erasure and
void of Jewish life in Berlin, can the history of Berlin and Europe
have a human future.
