 Identifying the two types of divergent boudaries

 Explain the process of divergent boundary in tectonic plate theory

Divergent plate boundaries are locations
where plates are moving away from one
another. This occurs above rising convection
currents. The rising current pushes up on the
bottom of the lithosphere, lifting it and flowing
laterally beneath it.
Also called constructive plate
margins are areas where two
plates are moving apart from each
other.

This movement results in an

upwelling of hot materials from
the mantle move upward, filling
up the spaces as the oceanic crust
is ripped apart.
v On land, giant troughs such as the Great Rift Valley in Africa
form where plates are tugged apart. If the plates there
continue to diverge, millions of years from now Eastern Africa
will split from the continent to form a new landmass. A mid-
ocean ridge would then mark the boundary between the
plates.
