ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE
MOVEMENT

• The tobacco monopoly in our country was

removed.

• The 40 days forced labor became 15 days a year.

• The tribute was replaced to cedula tax.

15
The movement ended in a failure.

(1) Lack of financial support

(2) Rizal was exiled
(3) Death of Del Pilar and Jaena

Although the Propaganda had not brought reality changes and reforms in the country, we can say
that the literatures resulted from it became the source of what came to be the Philippine
Nationalism. The spirit of nationhood had its roots in the movement. It also awakened the minds of
the Filipinos and gave them a sense of culture identity. It initiated the voice of Filipinos to speak and
get out of their cage.

The instigation of this movement proves that Filipinos are not passive human beings. They don’t
accept mistreatment. They fight for what belongs to them. They stand up taller than their tormentors
no matter how hopeless it may seem. Because if there is one thing the propaganda movement
succeeded in, its how they imparted nationalism to
16 their countrymen.
