EZRA POUND
 Ezra Pound was an American poet and critic.

 He was born in 1885 and died in 1972.

 He is considered one of the most influential poet


of the 20th century.
APPRECIATION

 In an introduction to the (Literary Essays of Ezra


Pound), T.S Eliot declared that Ezra Pound “is
more responsible for the 20th-century revolution
in poetry than is any other individual.”
IN A STATION OF THE METRO

“The apparition of these faces in the crowd:


Petals on a wet, black bough”.
ANALYSIS OF THE POEM

 Poem has no rhyming scheme.

 It is a verb less poem.


POETIC DEVICES USED IN THE POEM
 Metaphor

In the poem, Ezra Pound used a metaphor in which


he compared the people in the station to wet petals
on a "bough" ("a branch of a tree").
ALLITERATION
 Alliteration is also there in the poem.

“Petals on a wet, black bough”.

In this verse, black and bough shows the


phenomenon of alliteration.
THEMES

 In the poem, Ezra Pound talks about the real and


imaginative world.
CRITICAL POINT
 When the poet talks about a lot of faces, he
actually points out the double faced people.

 He says as quickly the passengers on station


come and go, just like them everyone change
his/her stance.

 We can’t have any idea who is the real one.
