Dr. Brijmohan Lall Munjal is


an Industrialist and founder
of The Hero Group which
owns the Hero Honda Motors
in India.
Early Life

 Born in 1923 in Kamalia.


 Middle-class Hindu family.
 Worked at the Army Ordnance Factory.
 Came to Amritsar at the age of 20 along with his 3
brothers Dayanand, Satyanand & Om Prakash.
 Supplier of bicycle components.
 Moved to Ludhiana after partition.
 Started manufacturing spare parts in 1952.
THE RISE OF A TYCOON!!!

 Punjab government financed Rs.600,000 in 1956.


 Set up “Hero cycles Ltd.” – THE HERO GROUP.
 Yearly production 7500 units.
 Gave established players a run for their money.
 Established Majestic Auto Ltd. in 1978.
 In 1984, collaborated with Japan’s Honda and
“HERO HONDA MOTORS” was formed.
 On 13 April 1985, the first Hero Honda motorbike
rolled out.
 Largest manufacturer of motorbikes in the world.
 Currently his net worth is $1.2 billion.
MILESTONES OF HERO GROUP

 1956 – HERO CYCLES LTD. was estalbished.


 1963 – It pioneered bicycle exports.
 1975 – HERO CYCLES LTD. became the largest
manufacturer of bicycles in India.
 1978 – MAJESTIC AUTO LTD. was formed.
 1981 – MUNJAL CASTINGS established.
 1984 – Collaborated with HONDA MOTORS of
Japan and established HERO HONDA
MOTORS LTD.
 1985 – The first 100cc motorbike rolled out.
 1986 – HERO CYCLES LTD. entered the
“Guinness Book of Records” as the largest
manufacturer of bicycles in the world.

 1990 - Hero Coal Rolling Div. established.


 1993 - HERO MOTORS became India’s
largest exporter of two-wheelers.
 2001 -HERO HONDA emerged as the
market leader with sales over a million
motorcycles.
 2006 - HERO HONDA entered the scooter
segment.
 2006 - HERO GROUP celebrated golden
jubilee year. It crossed sales of over 15
million motorcycles & over 100 million
bicycles.
Today, the HERO GROUP has a turnover
of US$ 3.20 billion.
Achievements:

• Awarded Businessman of the Year in 1994 by


business magazine "Business India"
• Received the National Award for outstanding
contribution to the Development of Indian Small
Scale Industry in 1995.
• In 1999 Featured in Most Admired CEO List of the
magazine "Business Barons".
• Received The Distinguished Entrepreneurship
Award from The PHD Chamber of Commerce and
Industry in 1997.
• Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Conferred
Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial Peace in
2000.

the year in 2001.
• Received The Lifetime Achievement award
for "Management" from All India
Management Association in 2003.
• Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi
conferred him with a Doctrate; degree of
"Doctors of letters" Honoris Causa in

• Awarded "Padma Bhushan"in March 2005 for
his contribution to Trade and Industry in
2005.
