Mean, Median, Mode

 The measure of central tendency is a summary statistic that represents the
center point or typical value of a dataset.
 The measures of central tendency are numbers that represent a whole set of
data or information.
 The three common measures of central tendency are the mean, median, and
mode.

 Mean is the “center of gravity” of the data.
 The mean is the arithmetic average of the dataset.

MEAN
 To calculate the mean, we first have to calculate the sum of the data set then divide by the amount
of numbers in the dataset.

 Example:
  
To find the mean of the following data set: (56, 35, 45, 67, 12, 24, 48, 55, 58, 30)

The Mean = 43

HOW TO CALCULATE THE MEAN?

 The median is the middle value of the dataset.
 It is the value that splits the dataset in half.
 The method for getting the median varies slightly depending on whether the
dataset has an even or odd number of values.

MEDIAN
HOW TO CALCULATE THE MEDIAN?
 When the dataset has an odd number of values, arrange the values in
ascending order and get the middle most value.
 Median Odd
23, 21, 18, 16, 15, 13, 12, 10, 9, 7, 6, 5, 2
 Notice that the number 12 has six values on the side and six values on the left.
Therefore, 12 is the median of this dataset.

TO CALCULATE WITH AN ODD

DATASET
 When there is an even number of values, get the two innermost values then
take the average.
 Median Even
40, 38, 35, 33, 32, 30, 29, 27, 26, 24, 23, 22, 19, 17
 The two innermost values of this dataset is 27 and 29. The average of which is 28.
Therefore, 28 is the median of this dataset.

TO CALCULATE WITH AN EVEN

DATASET
 The mode is the value that occurs the most frequently in the dataset.
 On a bar chart, the mode is the highest bar.
 If no value repeats on the dataset, then the value does not have a mode.

MODE
 To determine the mode of a dataset, get the value that occurs the most in the set.
 5, 5, 5, 4, 4, 3, 2, 2, 1
 In the dataset shown above, the number 5 occurs most frequently, which makes it the mode.
