Weather data analysis

Why do we need this?

For analysis of building’s location for proper EEF design
For analysis of EEF strategies that one may adapt to the building
To control solar gains/heat flux/heat transfer etc inside/ through the
building’s envelope

To conduct a proper lighting design for visual comfort of the occupants

etc

Weather data analysis

Definitions
The dry-bulb temperature (DBT) is the temperature of air measured by a thermometer freely
exposed to the air, but shielded from radiation and moisture. DBT is the temperature that is usually
thought of as air temperature, and it is the true thermodynamic temperature.

Wet bulb temperature is the lowest temperature to which air can be cooled by the evaporation of
water into the air at a constant pressure.

Dew point temperature is defined as the temperature to which the air would have to cool (at
constant pressure and constant water vapor content) in order to reach saturation.

Relative humidity (RH) is the ratio of the partial pressure of water vapor to the equilibrium vapor
pressure of water at a given temperature. (amount of water vapor in the air)

Definitions
Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI) is the total amount of shortwave radiation received from
above by a surface horizontal to the ground.

Direct Normal Irradiance (DNI) is the amount of solar radiation received per unit area by a
surface that is always held perpendicular (or normal) to the rays that come in a straight line from
the direction of the sun at its current position in the sky.

Diffuse Horizontal Irradiance (DHI), or Diffuse Sky Radiation is the radiation at the Earth's surface
from light scattered by the atmosphere. It is measured on a horizontal surface with radiation coming
from all points in the sky excluding circumsolar radiation (radiation coming from the sun disk).
