• In February 17, 1872, Fathers Mariano Gomez,
Jose Burgos and Jacinto Zamora (Gomburza), all
Filipino priest, was executed by the Spanish
colonizers on charges of subversion. 

• The death of Gomburza awakened strong

feelings of anger and resentment among the
Filipinos. They questioned Spanish authorities
and demanded reforms.

• The martyrdom of the three priests apparently

helped to inspire the organization of the
Propaganda Movement.

refers to three intelligent Filipino Catholic priests ( Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos and Jacinto
Zamora) who were executed on 17 February 1872 in bagumbayan by Spanish colonial
authorities on charges of leading the revolutionary group called The cavite mutiny. Gomburza
seek for the truth and justice to the Filipino citizen who was abused by Churches and Spanish
authorities, after the execution, Gomburza contributed to the awakening of national
consciousness of the Filipino that caused why katipuneros of Cavite mutiny declared a national
revolution after 24 years against the Spanish colonial government in August 1896. During that
time Churches and Spanish authorities can control the civilization In the Philippines even
though the three priests bring unity to seek for justice to gain independence in our country.
