subject to the law. It had a list of 63 clauses to limit the king`s power. It was a

document that guaranteed rights and privileges. It was also called `The Great
Charter of

the Liberties`. This was one of the most celebrated documents in the history of

England. This document was supposed to strengthen power of nobles, limit the
power

of the king, fair trial for all freemen, and reduce the injustice towards vassals and

The Magna Carta stated

that the King had to follow
the laws of the land and it
guaranteed the rights of

This was important

rather than king
controlling them.

Impact on American government.
The Magna Carta was a document that was meant to limit tyranny in
government and protect basic rights,so when its ideas were incorporated
into the constitution, did the same thing. It outlawed unlawful searches of
homes, right, to a speedy trial, right to a trial by jury, or loss of life, liberty,
and property without due processes of law. Separation of powers, along
with Montesquieu, could be credited to the magna carta since it limited the
king`s power by partially delegating it to legislatures.
