IDEALISM
•Believesthat nothing exists except an
IDEA that in the mind of a man, the
mind of God, or in a supra-natural
realm.
•An idealist believes that ideas are the
only thing that is eternal and
unchanging.
HOW IDEALISM IS PROCESSED?
•First, we must understand that ideas
are generated in the head, then ideas
have to be translated into language
and put forward. As new and newer
ideas are being created, that leads us
to think how much ideas do we really
need to learn.
•The teacher’s role in idealism
is to facilitate thinking
through generation of IDEAS.
THE GOAL OF AN IDEALIST
CLASSROOM
• Sharing of ideas
• It is not right for students to think
that the teacher’s words or what is in the
book are the only things that are
important
• Student’s ideas are also equally important.
• Teachers must refine the
student’s ideas
• Involve students through
their own ideas
AN IDEALIST CURRICULUM
• Mustexamine the roots of the
contemporary problems.
•Mustbe focused on the subject
matter.
•Students must have basic
foundations.

REALISM
•Educational philosophy that
believes that reality exists
independent of the human mind,
and that the physical objects are
the ultimate reality.
PROPONENTS OF REALISM
•Aristotle – he believes that for
learning to happen we have to”
move away” or to experience.
•He also believes that “ what we
feel is the REAL”.
GOAL OF EDUCATION IN
REALISM
• Develop intellectual ability by providing
students information and knowledge.
• Equip students with information to
understand current events.
For a realist, the mind is a “ tabula rasa”
Tabula rasa means blank state
ROLE OF A REALIST TEACHER:
•To be updated of what is going on
or what is real
•To adopt with the new technology
not just by knowing, but by
actually using it in methods of
instruction.
•When students uses new
technology in learning, don’t
reprimand him of the class rules.
•Theteacher should be competent
and updated in a specific subject
matter.
REALIST METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
• Usinginductive method and scientific
reasoning.
• Emphasis on critical reasoning aided by
observation and experimentation.
• Focuson PRECISION and ACCURACY, not
estimation.
• Literary realism is encouraged.
CURRICULUM OF A REALIST:
•Field trips, field works, videos and movies
are highly encouraged than mere
textbooks.
•Use of objects like what is done in the
Montessori Method is encouraged where
students could play around, touch and
feel.
