USEFUL LANGUAGE
• Athletics Vocabulary
• Athlete:a person who is skilled in track and field events; a sportsperson
• Athletics track: is usually oval in shape,It is400 metres long and it usually
has 8 running lanes.a for athletes to run on.
• Lane: Most running tracks have 8 lanes, allowing up to 8 runners to
compete in a race.
• Lap:a 400-metre race is one lap of an outdoor track, or two laps of an
indoor track.
• Relay races: are some of the few events in athletics which are team sports.
Each team member in turn covers part of the total distance.
• Baton short stick or tube passed from runner to runner in a relay race
• Sprint: short, fast race run over a distance of 400 metres or less
