ISRAEL

REYNALD S. ARNISTO
BSHM II- C
CULTURAL
There is generally a relaxed attitude toward alcohol in
Israel. The drinking age of 18 is loosely enforced, bars
stay open until the last customer stumbles home, and
it's not uncommon to see young people drinking beer
on the street or enjoying a bottle of wine in the park.
ARAK
Arak, distilled from anise, is Israel's national liquor. The
licorice-flavored spirit has been around for centuries in the
Middle East. Many bars, like BeerBazaar, flavor their arak
with seasonal fruit.
ETHICAL
In Israel, Alcohol use during the last decade has
increased among adolescents and young adults 8 and
has become an emerging problem. It is prohibited to
consume alcoholic drinks or possess alcoholic
beverages in an open container in a public place
between 21:00 pm and 6:00 am.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS
3.5 Maximum legal BAC (blood alcohol concentration)
Israels BAC is 0.05% for the general population, but 0.01%
for drivers under 24, drivers of public transportation
vehicles, or commercial drivers of vehicles whose licensed
weight is over 3500 kg. Many other countries have set a BAC
limit of 0.05%.
RESTRICTION ON ALCOHOL
SERVICE
Prohibition to sell alcohol at store between the hours of 11
pm and 6 am, except in restaurants, coffee-houses, and
places serving alcohol for consumption in its premises
(pubs, night clubs, catering services, etc.) Violators will face
