Create or modify a sublist
 To create, select Sublist  Create
 To modify, select Sublist  Modify,and a "Sublist Properties"
window displayed

 This window is made up of several Items :
 DISPLAY parameter to identify the sublist
 FILTER to select alarms to display in the sublist
 SORT sort order of the alarms in the sublist

 Choose a name and a colour for your sublist

 Set the filter to select only:


– cleared alarms
– unacknowledged alarms
– alarms in the last 24 hours

 Sort the sublist by “event date & time” and

“severity”

Reserving / unreserving an alarm
 Reservation ensures that you are the only operator responsible for
an alarm

 To reserve
 open a sublist
 select an alarm
 select Action  Reserve

 To unreserve
 open a sublist
 select the reserved alarm
 select Action  Unreserve

Generating trouble tickets
 Trouble ticket = collection of all information about one problem

 Open a sublist
 Select a single alarm or a group of alarms
 Select Action  Trouble Ticket...
 Confirm ==> indicator in the sublist change to YES

Acknowledging
 By acknowledging alarms, you indicate that they have been
registered.

 Open a sublist
 Select one or a group of alarms
 Select Action  Acknowledge
==> the state changes from NACK (Non ACKnowledge) to
ACK (ACKnowledge)

Manual purge
 Open a sublist
 Select one alarm or a group of alarms
 Select Action  Manual Purge
==> Purged alarms disappear from the current alarms list and
are now archived, if they match the archiving filter.

Exercise

 Reserve an alarm

 Try to unreserve an alarm reserved by an other user

 Unreserve the previously reserved alarm

 If ARS is active generate a trouble ticket for an alarm

Description
 The Historical Alarm List (HAL) contains former current alarms
that have been archived through one of the following processes
(if these alarms match the archiving filter):
 auto-purging
 manual purging
 overflow
 acknowledged and cleared alarms
 synchronisation

Starting up
 In the Current Alarm List, select Navigation  Archive >> confirm
==> A window opens with an empty list
 Retrieve the alarm list with Archive Retrieve from Public Archive...
OR  Retrieve from User Files...
 Set the filter parameters
 Click "Apply" ==> the historical alarm list is displayed
 The general operations on sublists are performed as for current alarms

Saving alarms to a user file / removing a user file
 SAVE
 Open a sublist of the HAL
 Select one or a group of alarms
 Select Action  Save as
 Enter a file name

 REMOVE
 From the "counter summary", window, select Archive 
Remove User Files...
 Select the file to remove and move it to "selected user files"
list by clicking the arrow
 Click "OK"

Exercise

 Start the Historical Alarm List

 Retrieve the alarms from public archive

 Look for the alarms purged in the previous exercise


and find the insertion cause

 Create a sublist (e.g. with “Manual purge” as


“Insertion cause”)

 Create a user file with a selection of alarms from the


sublist

 Close and restart the Historical Alarm List

Time allowed :  Retrieve the alarms from your user file and check that

 Remove your user file

Navigating from AS to PNM
 To view the Network Element that has generated an alarm

 Select an alarm from the sublist


 Select Navigation  Topology Manager
==> A PNM window opens displaying the submap of the
Network Element generating the alarm

Navigating from AS to an external application
 You can navigate to an external application of your choice
 This navigation feature has to be configured during installation

Exporting alarms to a printer or text file
 You can export a whole sublist or a selection of alarms

 Open the sublist


 Select Action  Output
==> an "output" window opens
 TO PRINT
 Select the "print" button
 Click "OK"
 TO CREATE A TEXT FILE
 Select the "Export" button
 Choose "select" and enter a file name
 Click "OK"

Obtaining a report on an action
 Lets you view a report giving detailed information on the
progress or execution (successful or not) of an operator action.
 In the "Counter summary" window, select Navigation 

==> the following window is displayed

 Clear the whole report list
 Open the report window

 Delete reports for some selected actions
