POLITICAL BEHAVIOUR
Definition:- Activities that are not part of a person’s
formal role in the organization but that influence or
attempt to influence the distribution of advantages and
disadvantages within the organization.
Organizational politics focuses on the use of power to
affect decision making in an organization, sometimes for
self serving and organizationally unsanctioned
behaviours.

Research and observations have identified a number of factors
that appear to encourage political behaviour. Basically they are
classified as:

Individual factor

Organizational factor

Environmental factors
INDIVIDUAL FACTORS
There are several individual factors that lead an individual to
engage in political behaviour, some of them can be:
High self-monitors
Internal locus of control
Organizational investment
Perceived job alternatives
Expectations of success
Some simply engage in political behaviour because they are good
at it.

predict the action of others and use that info to form political
strategies that will help you in gaining advantage.
