CONCEPT
• STOCK MARKET: a place where the shares of the companies are exchanged.
• (BSE) is an Indian stock exchange located at Dalal Street, Mumbai.
• Asia's first stock exchange. The BSE is the world's 10th largest stock exchange.

• BSE provides an efficient and transparent market for trading in equity, currencies, debt
instruments, derivatives, mutual funds.

HISTORY

• The Bombay stock exchange was founded by Premchand Roychand.


• Established in 1875.
• stock broker meetings in the 1850s was in rather natural environs—under banyan trees—in front of the
Town Hall
• "The Native Share & Stock Brokers Association"
• On August 31, 1957, the BSE became the first stock exchange to be recognized by the Indian
Government under the Securities Contracts Regulation Act.
• the Bombay Stock Exchange switched to an electronic trading system developed by CMC Ltd. in 1995.

SALIENT FEATURES

• There are 23 stock exchange in India. BSE is the largest.


• It is the 11th largest Stock Exchange that completes transaction in 25 microseconds and
market capitalization with $1.8trillion as of 25 feb 2015.
• BSE accounts for over 2/3 of total trading volume in country.
• SENSEX was introduced by BSE on 1st jan 1986
