Stadium of Southwestern

University
The presentation was made by Tymoshenko Max
Introduction
In this Capstone project, I will address to main
essential problems of project management
concerned with building Southwestern’s stadium and
will try to solve them. The subject of the research is
Southwestern University – one of the oldest
university in Texas, - a good option to show the main
principles of project management. Potential barriers
to this project include decisions about developing a
network drawing for Hill Construction and determine
the critical path, probability calculation of finishing
project in 270 days, I will use my knowledge from
the operation management discipline to settle the
problems mentioned above.
Southwestern University

Southwestern University is a private institution

that was founded in 1840. Southwestern is a
member of the NCAA Division III Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).
Southwestern competes in 20 varsity
sports. It should be taken into account,
that Southwestern University is the first
institution of higher learning in the state
Texas.
By the way, in Texas there is a warm
climate where you can play sports in the
open air for a whole year.

Practical Part

• Question 1: Develop a network drawing for Hill

Construction and deter-mine the critical path. How
long is the project expected to take?
• Question 2: What is the probability of finishing in
270 days?
• Question 3: If it is necessary to crash to 250 or 240
days, how would Hill do so, and at what costs? As
noted in the case, assume that optimistic time
estimates can be used as crash times.

Question 1

For the next step of drawing diagram, we

EF = ES+ t, must find LS by this

where t is [(a+4m+b)/6] LS=LF-t

LF=smallest LS of following activities
Question 1

Slack = LS-ES or LF-EF

The activity has slack time of 0 is in critical path.
The critical path is A-C-D-G-H-I-L
Question 2: What is the probability of finishing in 270 days?

Z = (due date – expected date) /
project standard deviation
Where PSD =

A=11.11 Project Variance = 319.43
B=69.44 Project Standard Deviation = =17.87
D=136.11
G=2.78
H=11.11 Z = (270-260)/17.87 = 0.5596 ≈ 0.56 Probability of finishing the project in 270 days is 71.23%
I=44.44
L=44.44

Conclusion

In practical part, I developed a network

drawing for Hill Construction and defined a
critical path that is 260 days. I also
calculated the confidence that the project
will be completed in 270 days (71.23%) and
calculated costs for crash 240 and 250
days which amounted to $15,000 for 250
days and $34000 for 240 days.
