INDIVIDUAL BEHAVIOUR AND
GROUP BEHAVIOUR
Every Individual behaves in a different way at
situations. Individual Behaviour is a function of
such internal forces as personality, attitudes and
motivation.
 Human Behaviour is caused by needs. When a
need arises the individual feels there is lack of
something which makes him satisfy.

 He then seeks need which become

predominate in an individual at any time.

 The process of motivation begins with the

needs and with the satisfaction of the needs.
1- B.K.Skynnel assumes that behaviour itself is
more important than its psychological causes.

2- Behaviour is viewed as being condition solely

by external forces.

3 – Though a set of techniques called behaviour.

Motivation is possible to replace undesirable
behaviour with desired behaviour. Outcome of a
person’s action will determine whether he will
do the same thing again. For e.g- If a person
experiences pleasure or satisfaction from an
outcome, he/she is likely to repeat the action.
 To create a consistence work
environment.

 Determine the desired behaviour of

employees.

 Determine the types of rewards to

use.
 Communicate desired behaviour &
reward clearly to employees.

 Provide rewards for desired behaviour

immediately.

 Minimise the use of punishment.

Two or more people who
interact with each other
in a way to accomplish
certain goals or meet
certain needs.
 According to I-A-S Theory groups are
formed when there is Interaction ,
Activities & Sentiments.

 Individuals in group interact with each

other to common goals like co-operation
and problem solving.

Storming

Existing teams
Forming might regress Adjourning
back to an
earlier stage of
development
 Forming:
It is the initial
stage marked by
uncertainty and confusion.
The structure of the group
is uncertain and
unpredictable. Leadership
cannot be implemented
effectively.
 Storming:
There is a huge rift
created because of various
disparities and
disagreements between
members. Resistance to
constraints imposed by
group on individuality.
Conflict over leadership.
 Norming:
Situation of chaos is
finally settled. The
groups are finally
realized and “I” is
replaced by “WE”.
Close relationships
develop, strong sense
of identity and
cohesiveness.
 Performing:
Team Work forms the
very essence
of the group. The
assigned task is
completed with
devotion and
perseverance.
 Adjourning:
This represents the
end of the group. In
this case the mission is
accomplished and its
time to disband the
group or have a new
composition. All the
stages starts over
again.
