REDUCTION-

OXIDATION
REACTION
 There are certain chemical reactions that
involve changes in the oxidation numbers
of the elements – this is popularly known
as reduction-oxidation reactions or
simply redox reactions.
 Oxidation and reduction reactions always
take place simultaneously.
OXIDATION REACTION
- is defined as a chemical change in
which electrons are lost by an atom
or a group of atoms.
- in this reaction, the oxidation
number of an element increases.
REDUCTION REACTION
- is defined as a chemical change in
which electrons are gained by an
atom or a group of atoms.
- in this reaction, the oxidation
number of an element decreases.

CHECK-UP SEATWORK

REDUCTION-OXIDATION REACTION
Identify which substance is being oxidized
and reduced and which substance acts as
reducing and oxidizing agent.
1. Na + Cl → NaCl
2. Mg + HCl → MgCl2 + H2
3. Fe + 02 → Fe2O3
