• Gautam Buddha(563B.C-483B.C)began his life
as Siddhartha Gautam a prince
• At the age of 12 he started schooling in sacred
hindu scriptures and 4 yearss later he was
married to Yashodhara a princess.
• At the age of 25 while hunting he came across
a sick man, an aged man, a funeral procession
and a monk begging for alms
• These sights moved him so much that he went
out to seek enlightment
• After wandering for seven years he sat under a
peepal tree until he got enlightment
• He came to known as the Buddha
• He perched his first sermon at the holy city of
benares near the river Ganga
• The sermon reflects his wisdom about one kind
of suffering

• Kisa Gotami lost her only son and carried his
body around to neighbours asking for medicine
• One man told her to go to Buddha for help
• She went and cried for medicine
• Buddha asked for a handful of mustard seeds
but wanted her to bring them from a house
where no one has lost a child husband parent
or friend
• She wandered but could not find a single house
to fulfill the condition
• She came to know the ultimate truth that death
is common to all
• Buddha explained that those whoare born are
meant to die
• Grieving is not a means to obtain peace
• Those who overcome sorrow will be free from it
