LESSON 8: SPECIAL

EFFECTS
LAYER EFFECT

• These are built in effects that allows


you to add shadows, glows and 3D
like appearances to your layers
KINDS OF EFFECTS
• 1. DROP SHADOW EFFECT – This kind
of effect enables you to make the layer look
like it has been raised up from the image
canvass.
HOW CAN THIS BE DONE?
1. Go to Menu bar, click layer, click layer
style and click drop shadow.
2. On the layer style dialog box, select your
preferred style and click OK.
2. INNER SHADOW
EFFECT
- Are shadows within your image.
HOW CAN THIS BE DONE?
1.Go to the Menu Bar, click Layer, Click layer
style and click inner shadow
2.The layer style dialog box will appear where
you can make your settings and adjustments.
3. OUTER AND INNER
GLOW EFFECT
• OUTER GLOW effect adds faint color to the
border of the image or text
• INNER GLOW effect can make your images
glow inside inside the image or text.
• HOW CAN THS BE DONE?
• Click menu bar, click layer, click layer style and
then click outer glow or inner glow.
• Adjust the settings and then press OK.
4. BEVEL AND EMBOSS
Beveling and embossing a layer gives a 3D
effect on the image.
HOW CAN THIS BE DONE?
1. Go to Menu bar, click layer, click layer
style and click emboss and bevel.
2. Make your adjustments on the bevel
emboss dialog box , make adjustments and
click OK!
APPLYING MULTIPLE
EFFECTS
• You can add multiple effects to
one image or layer, this would be
possible by opening the layer
effects from the layer style menu
and put check marks on the
boxes.
EDITING APPLIED
EFFECTS
• You can edit your effects by doing
the following steps:
1.Select the layer with an applied
layer effect.
2. Go to Layer Menu, then select
Layer styles and then select Blending
options.
LOCKING LAYER
EFFECT
• This will prevent other from making
changes to your layer effects.
• This is helpful to avoid accidents that may
change your design.
• How can this be done?
• Select layer and then choose the lock icon
in the panel and to unlock just click the
icon again.
APPLYING STYLES
• You can apply pre – defined
Photoshop effects from the
combination of layer effects.
• This feature gives your work a
colorful and textured look.
CREATING CUSTOM
STYLES
• Custom style can be created and put it to
the styles panel for future use.
How to do this?
1.Apply one or more effects to a layer in
your image.
2.After putting the effects go to the layers
panel
