Pengertian Lensa
Understanding Lens
The lens is a clear object bounded by
2 curved planes. And these two curved
planes that limit the lens are both
cylindrical and spherical. The cylindrical
lens focuses light from a distant point
source on a line, while a spherical lens that
is curved in all directions concentrates light
from a distant source at a point.

Types of Lenses
1. Convex Lens (Positive)
A convex lens is a lens whose center is thicker than the edges. The convex lens is light-collecting (convergent).

There are 3 types of convex lenses, namely:

2. Double convex lens (bikonvex), that is, the lens with both surfaces is convex.
3. Flat or (plankonvex) convex lenses, namely lenses with one convex surface and the other flat.
4. Concave convex lenses (concave convex), namely lenses with one convex surface and the other concave.

2. Concave Lens (Negative)

Concave lenses are lenses that are thin at the center and at the edges of the lens. Concave lenses are light scattering
(divergent).

There are 3 types of concave lenses, namely:

5. A double concave lens (bikonkaf), that is, a lens with a concave shape on both surfaces.
6. Flat-concave lenses (plankonkaf), namely lenses with one concave surface and the other flat.
7. A concave convex lens (concave convex), which is a lens with a concave and one convex surface.

Special Rays on
the Lens
Sinar Istimewa pada Lensa
1. On the Convex Lens
The process of forming light on a concave lens can
occur because in each convex lens there are 2 focus
points, namely on the left and right of the lens, but the
distance of the two lens focus points is the same. There
are 3 special rays on the convex lens, namely:
● The rays coming parallel to the main axis of the lens
are refracted through the active focus point F1.
● The rays coming through the passive focus point F2
are refracted parallel to the main axis.
● The rays coming through the optical center point O
are transmitted without refraction.
2. On Concave
Lenses
● The rays will come parallel to the main
axis of the lens refracted as if coming
from the active focus point F1.
● The incoming rays as if towards the
passive focus point F2 are refracted
parallel to the main axis.
● The rays coming through the optical
center point O are transmitted without
refraction.

Lens Formulas
The formulas above are used with the
following agreement:
1) Lens focal length is:
• positive value for the convex lens, because the
convex lens collects light.
• negative for concave lenses. because concave
Information: lenses are light scattering.
• Problem = object distance (m) 2) For objects as well as real images, the values of So,
• Si = image distance (m) Si, ho and hi are positive.
3) For objects as well as virtual images, the values of
• f = focal length (m) So, Si, ho and hi are negative.
• M = the linear magnification of the 4) Magnification of virtual and upright image, M value
image is positive
• P = Lens strength (diopters) 5) Real and inverted magnification of image, negative
M value.
Refraction of Light on the Lens

If the thick lens has only one surface, then the thin lens has 2 surfaces
and the thickness of the lens is considered zero. A thin lens is a translucent object
consisting of 2 curved areas or one curved plane and one flat plane.
