Algorithms

An Algorithm is the description of mechanization of

a particular equation by digital computer.

Equation used for particular function on computer.

In DCS control, the digital computer computes the

actual movement of the valve or other final
actuators.

In Supervisory control, required change in the

variable setpoint, and the final control actuation
is left to an analog electronic or pneumatic
controller.

Position
Algorithm

The three mode controller can be represented by:

Where,
Pn= Valve Position at time n.
PM = A medium valve position
Kp = Proportional mode gain
KI = Integral mode gain
KD= Derivative mode gain
E= Error
S= Setpoint

Velocity
Algorithm

If the computer output goes to a stepping motor

or integrating amplifier, the computer simply
calculates the required change in valve position.

Stepping motor is used in turn drives a slide

wire and the slide wire output is proportional
to the correct valve position.
Therefore, the combination of stepping
motor(digital correction) and slide
wire(Analog signal to the final control
element)act as a digital to analog converter.

Velocity
Algorithm

The velocity algorithm output(ψn) is found by

subtracting the outputs of two successive position
algorithm Calculations:
