CIRCULARITY

DEFINITION:

It is the condition on a surface of

revolution (cylinder,cone,sphere) where
all points of the surface intersected by any
plane perpendicular to common axis are
equidistant from center.
CIRCULARITY
 REPRESENTATION:
CIRCULARITY
 INTERPRETATION:
CIRCULARITY
 SOURCES OF OUT OF ROUNDNESS
 Clamping distortion.
 Spindle run-out.

 Presence of dirt and chips on clamping surfaces.

 Imbalance.

 Heat and vibration.

CIRCULARITY
 Different types of Irregularities of a Circular
Part.
 Ovality (There is some difference between the
major and minor axes).
 Lobing (In this case the diameters at any two
opposite points are constant, but still it is not
circular form).
CIRCULARITY

 Devices for measurement of roundness

 Diametral
 Circumferential confining gauge

 Rotating on centres

 Three-point probe
CIRCULARITY

 V-Block- Piece rotating against a set probe

 Accurate spindle
 Part fixed
 Probe fixed
CIRCULARITY
 V-Block Method:
CIRCULARITY
 Part fixed
 Adv.
 Spindle is free from weight of the part.
 Flatness,camming can be checked.

 Disadv.
 Height of the part is limited by location of probe.
CIRCULARITY
 Probefixed
 Adv.
 No limit for the height of the part.
 Roundness, camming concentricity can be checked.

 Disadv.
 Weight of the part may lead to inaccurate reading.
CYLINDRICITY
 DEFINITION
 Itis the condition on a surface of revolution
in which all points of the surface are
equidistant from center.
CIRCULARITY
 REPRESENTATION:
CIRCULARITY
 INTERPRETATION:
CIRCULARITY
 V-Block Method.
 Rotating on centers.
Analysing results
 Least squares referance method
 Minimum zone circles.
 Maximum inscribed circle.
 Minimum circumscribed circle.
