SESSION OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify the Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC).
2. Gain understanding on unpacking the Most Essential
Learning Competency (MELC).
3. Acquire skills in preparing sample learning objectives.
4. Develop creative and appropriate learning activities.
5. Promote a culture of collaborative work and collegial
learning among co-teachers and instructional leader.

Introductory Activity:
1. Participants will be divided into 7 groups (based on grade
level)
2. Each group will get one envelop containing meta cards of the
different parts of self-learning module and arranged them by pasting on
a manila paper.
3. Each group is given 5 minutes to do the following:
A. Paste the meta card on the manila paper using the different parts
of self-learning module.
B. Publish your work on the designated area.
Ask the following questions:

1. How did you come up with your answer?


2. Are there any similarities in your answers with
the other groups?
3. What are the things we have to consider in
preparing the self-learning module?
4. How important is self-learning module in these
new normal way of teaching?

Learning Competency (MELC) and Curriculum
Guide (CG)?
2. How were the most essential learning
competencies identified?
3. What is the importance of the MELCs in ensuring
the delivery of quality instruction?
Unpacking the Most Essential Learning
Competencies

Why unpacking?
It is because standards are sometimes written as
overarching-and often complex-statements that can be
interpreted in different ways, it’s important that
teacher’s share a common understanding about the
goals and targets of a standard.
What is the important of unpacking the
MELCs?

It is important to consider the learners characteristics and


levels of understanding of learners.
What considerations must be taken in unpacking the
MELC’s?

We must consider the design by standards based so the main


features of the K-12 curriculum, no MELC’s without the
content and performance standard.
In unpacking the MELCs into learning objectives you need
to consider the following:
Alignment on the Content and Performance Standards-The
MELCs are not a departure from the standards-based design,
which is one of the main features of the K-12 Curriculum.
ACTIVITY
Using the MELCs, choose ESP in the second quarter and
unpack these into learning objectives.

Each group will present their unpacked learning


objectives. Discussion and processing will follow each
presentation. Suggestions and insights from each group
will be considered in enhancing the learning objectives.
