Take A Breather or Two
MULTIPLE STRUGGLES OF
STUDENTS TOWARDS
STRESS MANAGEMENT
Background of the Study
According to Fairbrother & Warn (2003) some of the common
stressors reported in an academic setting including excessive
assignments, poor time management and social skills, peer
competition, etc.
Statement of the Problem
THIS STUDY IS ANCHORED ON AJZEN’S THEORY OF PLANNED BEHAVIOR AND COPING THEORY. THE HIGHER THE PERCEPTUAL SALIENCE, THE LOWER THE PERCEIVE ATTENTIONAL CONTROL. THE MORE POSSIBLE BEHAVIORS ARE AVAILABLE, THE HIGHER THE EFFICIENCY ENCOPING WITH EXTERNAL EVENTS.
THE MAIN POINT IS HOW DIFFERENT PEOPLE PERCEIVE
AN EVENT OR SITUATION IN DIFFERENT WAYS, WHICH
MEANS THAT THE MAIN CAUSES OF EFFECTS ON
BEHAVIORS AND HELP STATUS ARE SPECIFIC TO AN
INDIVIDUAL’S PERCEPTION RATHER THAN STRESSORS
(GLANZ ET AL., 2008).
DEFINITION OF TERMS
The following terms are defined technically and with
simplicity for a better understanding of the study.
These young people report that the impact of the loss of sleep
is difficulty paying attention, lower grades, higher stress, and
trouble getting along with other people. Some students reported
problematic coping strategies such as taking sleeping pills,
smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol to help them sleep
(Noland et al., 2009).
