PARTS OF

COMPUTER:
OUTPUT DEVICES
OUTPUT DEVICES
An output device is any part of computer hardware equipments
which converts information into human-readable form. It can be
text, graphics, tactile, audio, and video. Some of the output
devices are Visual Display Units (VDU) i.e. a Monitor, Printer,
Graphic Output devices, Plotters, Speakers etc.

MONITOR

Monitor, commonly called as Visual Display Unit (VDU), is the

main output device of a computer. It forms images from tiny
dots, called pixels that are arranged in a rectangular form.
The sharpness of the image depends upon the number of
pixels. There are two kinds of viewing screen used
for monitors.
PRINTER

A printer is an output device that prints paper documents.

This includes text documents, images, or a combination of
both. Printers can be classified into two categories on the
basis of method of producing output: Impact Printers and
Non-Impact Printers.
PRINTER
 Dot Matrix Printer: A dot matrix printer is an impact
printer that prints using a fixed number of pins or wires . Typically
the pins or wires are arranged in one or several vertical columns.
The pins strike an ink-coated ribbon and force contact between the
ribbon and the paper, so that each pin makes a small dot on the
paper. The combination of these dots forms a dot matrix image.
PRINTER

Daisy wheel Printer: A daisy wheel printer is an early type of  impact

printer invented in 1969 by David S. Lee at Diablo Data Systems. The
printer uses a metal or plastic disk containing each of the letters,
numbers, and other characters it supports. When printing, the printer
rotates the disk to each character and then using a hammer strike each
character into an ink ribbon to create the character on paper.
PRINTER

 Line Printer: A line printer is an impact printer which makes

use of a continuous feed of paper and prints one line of text at
a time.
PRINTER
 Inkjet Printer: An inkjet printer is a computer peripheral that
produces hard copy by spraying ink onto paper. A typical
inkjet printer can produce copy with a resolution of at least
300 dots per inch ( dpi ). Some inkjet printers can make full
color hard copies at 600 dpi or more.
PRINTER

 Laser Printer: Laser Printer is a non-impact page printer

which is used to print the output at a very fast speed. The
laser printers use a beam of laser to print the required output.
PLOTTER
A Plotter is a computer hardware device much like a printer
that is used for printing vector graphics. Instead of
toner plotters use a pen, pencil, marker, or another writing tool
to draw multiple, continuous lines onto paper rather than a
series of dots like a traditional printer.
PROJECTOR
A projector is an output device that can take images generated
by a computer or Blue-ray player and reproduce them
by projection onto a screen, wall, or another surface. In most
cases, the surface projected onto is large, flat, and lightly
colored.
SPEAKERS
Speakers are one of the most common output devices used
with computer systems. Speakers are transducers that convert
electromagnetic waves into sound waves. The speakers
receive audio input from a device such as a computer or an
audio receiver. The sound produced by speakers is defined by
frequency and amplitude. The frequency determines how high
or low the pitch of the sound is.
HEADSET
A headset combines a headphone with a microphone.
Headsets are made with either a single-earpiece (mono) or a
double-earpiece (mono to both ears or stereo). Headsets
provide the equivalent functionality of a telephone
handset but with hands free operation. They have many
uses including in call centers and other telephone-intensive
jobs and for anybody wishing to have both hands free during
a telephone conversation.
