INTRODUCTION:
INTRODUCTION:
Wireless energy transfer or wireless
power transmission is the process that
takes place in any system where electrical
energy is transmitted from a power
source to an electrical load, without
interconnecting wires.
ONE OF THE FINEST EXAMPLES
OF WIRELESS ENERGY TRANSFER:
Primary and secondary coils of
tansformer involve transfer of energy in
wireless form in the form of MUTUAL
INDUCTION.
HISTORY:
HISTORY:
Wireless energy transfer, the
transmission of electrical energy
without wires, has been around since
about 1856 in the form of mutual
induction.
At the St. Louis World's Fair (1904), a
prize was offered for a successful
attempt to drive an 0.1 Horsepower
air-ship motor by energy transmitted

Now a days there is a Rapid
development of autonomous
electronics like Laptops, Cell-
phones, House-hold robots and
all those devices typically rely
on chemical energy
storage(Battery) As they are
becoming daily needs to present
generation, Wire less energy
transfer would be useful for
many applications as above and
they need midrange energy.

The electrical
transformer is probably
the simplest example of
wireless energy transfer.
The primary and
secondary circuits of a
transformer are
electrically isolated from
each other. The transfer
of energy takes place by
electromagnetic coupling
through a process known
as INDUCTION.

RADIATION..
Electromagnetic radiation in the form
of either radio waves or light can also
be used to transfer energy wirelessly.
While systems based upon this
method are used mostly for
information transfer, a high degree of
efficiency in power transmission is
also achievable under certain
circumstances

COUPLING
Evanescent wave coupling is a process
by which electromagnetic waves are
transmitted from one medium to
another by means of the evanescent
(or decaying) electromagnetic field(s).
Breakdown of Evanescent Wave Coupling:

CONDUCTION
CONDUCTION::
From experiments performed between 1888
and 1907 Nikola Tesla concluded that the
earth is an excellent electrical conductor, and
an electric current can be made to propagate
undiminished for distances of thousands of
miles. It was also found that the earth’s natural
electrical charge can be made to oscillate, "by
impressing upon it [very low frequency]
current waves of certain lengths, definitely
related to its diameter

These methods can reach at
most a few centimetres.
The action of an electrical
transformer is the simplest
instance of wireless energy
transfer.
APPLICATIONS:
Electric toothbrush battery
charger.
Induction cooker stovetop.
Devices using induction to charge
portable consumer electronics
such as cell phones.

These methods achieve distances of a few

Low power
A new company, Power Moderate distance
introduced wireless power transfer
technology using RF energy at the 2007
Consumer Electronics Show, winning best
Emerging Technology. The Powercast
system is applicable for a number of devices
with low power requirements. This could
include LEDs, computer peripherals,
wireless sensors, and medical implants.

These methods achieve multiple kilometre
ranges.
RADIO AND MICROWAVES:
The earliest work in the area of wireless
transmission via radio waves was
performed by Heinrich Rudolf Hertz in
1888. A few years later Guglielmo
Marconi worked with a modified form of
Hertz's transmitter. Nikola Tesla also
investigated radio transmission and
reception.
TRANSMISSION

BYLIGHT
LIGHT
In the case of light, power can be transmitted by converting
electricity into a laser beam that is then fired at a solar cell receiver.
This is generally known as "power beaming". Its drawbacks are:
Conversion to light, such as with a laser, is moderately inefficient
(although quantum cascade lasers improve this)
Conversion back into electricity is moderately inefficient, with
photovoltaic cells achieving 40%-50% efficiency. (Note that
conversion efficiency is rather higher with monochromatic light than
with insolation of solar panels).
EXPERIMENTAL
EXPERIMENTALDESIGN:
DESIGN:
MIT researcher MARIN SOLJACIC Performed an
experimental scheme which consisted of two Self-
resonant coils. One coil (source coil) is coupled
inductively to an oscillating circuit; the other (device
coil) is coupled inductively to a resistive load. Self-
resonant coils rely on the interplay between
distributed inductance and distributed capacitance to
achieve resonance
SHARP
AS AN APPLICATION
Transformation of power.
Transformation of information.
Disadvantages:-
Increased health and safety risks
CONCLUSION:
Wireless Electricity concept is a boon for
devices which uses midrange energy. The
Power transfer is explained with the help of
Magnetic resonance. By the above
discussion, we can conclude the below points.
i) The optimal regime of efficient power
transfer is Strongly coupled regime.
ii) High power output.
iii) Wireless Energy Transfer is in
development stage. Currently the project is
looking for power transmission in the range
of 100 watts .
