IV. Can be compressed
What happens when we put solid in
extremely high temperature ?

 Increasing in temperature causes the kinetic energy of

the particles to also increase.
 This allows the particles to overcome the
intermolecular forces and become mobile.
 Low pressure also increases the particles kinetic
energy.
 As the particles escapes the solid and disperse as a gas,
sublimation occurs.
What happens when we put solid in
extremely low temperature ?
 When a solid is cooled to an extremely low temperature,
the solid turns to a gas.
 Some solids when they are extremely cooled, the cannot
be a liquid so the turn to a gas
 Like dry ice etc.…
What happens when we put liquid in
extremely high temperature ?
 If a liquid is heated sufficiently, it forms a gas.
 If the liquid is heated until an extremely high
temperature, it turns into superheated liquid or
superheated water.
 Superheated water is liquid water under pressure.
 Superheated water is also known as subcritical water or
pressurized hot water.
 When liquid water is extremely heated, superheated
water forms.
What happens when we put liquid in
extremely low temperature ?
 If a liquid is cooled sufficiently, it forms a solid.
 If the liquid is cooled until an extremely low
temperature, it turns into supercooled liquid or
supercooled water.
 Therefore, when liquid encounters very cold
temperature, the outside will get chilled first.
 It can become supercooled without freezing if there
are no crystal nuclei to condense around.
What happens when we put gas in
extremely high temperature ?

 When you heat a gas, both its vapor pressure and the
volume it occupies increase.
 The individual gas particles become more energetic and
the temperature of the gas increases.
 At high temperature, the gas turns into plasma.
What happens when we put gas in
extremely low temperature ?
 When the we put the gas in extremely low temperature, it
doesn’t change
 It stays as it is – gas.
