Ramesh and Gargi

Overview
Chrysalis Pharmaceuticals is a multinational drug manufacturer,
headquartered in Chennai.

Since the hiring of Gargi, Ramesh(Head L&D) feels subsided and undervalued.
Gargi has been an exceptional performer but Ramesh is not pleased by some
of her actions. He also finds out that upper management was overlooking
Gargi’s work. Ramesh has been severely affected, he has become insecure and
has lost his self confidence and felt undervalued.

Ramesh’s Characteristics

● Ramesh Sharma, head of Learning and Development (L&D) at Chrysalis’s


Pharmaceuticals
● Chrysalis’s fifth employee in hierarchy
● Had worked in a large oil company in all the divisions of HR for 15 years
● Duties- To onboard, hire and plan career for the new hires
● Duties- Implement sound HR policies and practices along with Kamla
● Handled a team of 4 in L&D
● An alumnus of PMIR from Xavier School of Management (XLRI)

Gargi’s Characteristics
● Gargi Sinha, a young graduate from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS)
● Introduced in the Chrysalis as a new member in the L&D department with
additional duty of CSR
● Worked with Microsoft in the L&D for 3 years
● Duties- to devote 60% of her time in CSR initiatives and rest in L&D
● Appreciated by all and very effective in work
● She is confident, articulates her points well and is a fast learner
● Enthusiastic about taking initiatives

Cause of Problem
● Main issue here is the gap of communication between Ramesh and other
members of the company
● First it happens when Kamla didn’t let Ramesh know about recruitment of
Gargi in the company and then Kamla’s not listening to Ramesh concerns
● Insecurity in part of Ramesh about his role and authority in team and
company
● Struggling in the teamwork as Gargi works independently even though
Ramesh told her about the organization culture

Suggestions

● Ramesh can try to make Gargi aware about what is bothering him
● He should be understanding and welcoming to accept the change and different approach of
work
● Instead of complaining, he could have directly gone to Gargi and give her the feedback
● He should focus more on the team’s win rather than just himself
● He should also go explaining the working environment of the team and the organization
