DMAIC Model over view
O DMAIC is a problem solving and aprocess improvement model
O It is a core part of six sigma
O DMAIC stands for Define,Mesaure,Analyze,Improve and
Control.
Why DMAIC?
DMAIC Is a method of root cause analysis.
DMAIC should use when :

O There is a problem and the root cause is unknown.


O The stakes are high and we nees to be absolutly sure the
solution fixes the problem.
O A problem exists, solutions have been tried but the root cause is
still unknown.
SIX SIGMA DMAIC PROCESS
Define
Is the first phase of dmaic process
The main objective of this phase is to summarize the project plan.
This phase focuses on clearly specifying the problems; the goals
of the process improvement
Main tools used:
O Project charter
O Voice of customer
O SIPOC
Measure
In the measurement phase the Team focuses on date collection,
which takes time and effort.
Main tools user:
O Data collection planning
O Operational definitions
O Baseline data
Analyse
In the analyse phase the team reviews data collected during the
measure phase. The goal is to narrow down and verify the cause
of weste and defect.
Main tools used:
O Process analysis
O Brainstorm
O Fishbone Diagram
O 5 Whys
Improve
In the improve phase the team moves on to solutions
development
Main tools are used
O Create flow
O Poka yoke
O Visual management
control
The control phase the team focuses on how to sustain newly
achieved improvement by passing it on the other employees.
Main tools used:
O Process control plan
O Documentation
O Storyboard
O Control charts
