LIBERTAS/LICENTIA

- Is an intrinsic and essential property of a person.

-Is the ability to make choices and perform actions.

- It is rooted in the human person’s self-determination

and the exercise of intellect and free will.
SITUATION:
 Kinds of Freedom

1. PHYSICAL FREEDOM – Refers to the

absence of physical restraint.

2. PSYCHOLOGICAL FREEDOM – also

called freedom of choice.

upholds human dignity and
goodness. (God gave us freewill to choose what we want to do
in our life, whether we do good or bad.)

TWO ELEMENTS OF FREEDOM

1. VOLUNTARINESS
- Refers to the ability of a person to
act of his or her own free will and
self determination.

- Have you ever made a voluntary

action to address a bad situation?
2. RESPONSIBILITY
- Refers to the person being
accountable for his or her actions
and their consequences.
- Voluntariness and responsibility go
hand-in-hand in determining a
person’s freedom.
How can we exercise our freedom in a
responsible and beneficial manner?

• Should be exercised with control and a

recognition of reasonable limits.
• Should be exercised with regard for
knowledge and truth.
• Should Recognize and uphold not only
our individual freedom but also the
freedom of others.
