What Is Automation
• Automation as "the creation and application of technology to monitor and control the production and delivery of products
and services.”

3
Automation History

4
Automation Tools
• ANN - Artificial neural network
• DCS - Distributed Control System
• HMI - Human Machine Interface
• SCADA - Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition
• PLC - Programmable Logic Controller
• PAC - Programmable automation controller
• Instrumentation
• Motion control
• Robotic

Automation In supply Chain
• Supply chain automation refers to systematizing part or all of a
workflow to improve processes. In essence, it means utilizing
technology to centrally manage a complex web of working parts.
Automation can be utilized across many facets of the supply
chain, including:
• Payments and invoicing
• Order fulfillment and inventory updates
• Customer service, including tracking generation and email
confirmation
• Picking and/or packing
• Selling across multiple channels
• Setting and tracking revenue and expansion goals
• Applying bulk actions for high-order volumes
6
How supply chain use robots

• Robotics in warehouses
Nestle use of robots in the warehouse and unloading docks
will help them streamline order fulfillment as well. Robots
are incredibly efficient, using data to ensure product
barcodes are precisely what a consumer selected. In the age
of two-dimensional barcodes, such as QR codes, that can
contain up to 2000 characters of information, the
opportunities for efficiency improvements using robotics
are almost endless.
Meanwhile, robots moving throughout the facility, and on
the loading dock will reduce risk to the company workers
and reduce delays

7
Using Integrated system

• According to nChannel, the use of integrated

systems for e-commerce will naturally incur a
level of automation, and this will have a
significant boost for a company seeking to stay
competitive with Amazon’s break-next delivery
windows. Integrating systems, and using
automation allow companies to fill orders faster
and move them throughout the supply chain
network. Meanwhile, the IoT-enabled sensors and
product verification systems will ensure
maximum accuracy on orders and prevent
unnecessary delays. If the delay does occur,
automated alerts to consumers and shippers will
reduce the influx of consumer complaints and

create a culture of visibility.
Driverless Vehicles -
Shipping
• supply chain management can become vastly
more efficient with driverless vehicles on your
premises. Driverless vehicles in supply chain
management fill in the role of traditional
forklifts and employees who would otherwise
physically transport palettes and other stored
items in and around your warehouses.
• These vehicles can be programmed to fill in
for a number of different roles, including cargo
loading and unloading, warehouse item search
(provided that items are barcoded) and lead to
a drastic increase in turnaround times as a
result. Going a step further, driverless vehicles
will also be able to deliver small-scale orders
to your clients, effectively bypassing third-
party delivery services from the equation. 9
Automation & AI in Order Fulfillment

• Alibaba, the largest online retailer in the

world, which used 60 robots to reduce human
labor by 70%. The robots in their warehouse
bring inventory to human workers, who then
package and mail orders.
• PepsiCo’s Frito Lay Operations use robotic
truck loaders and automated picking which
allowed them to create fully automated mixed
cases for smaller stores. The company credits
advances in technology with allowing them to
continue to leverage automation in new and
different types of orders for retailers.

Automation Facts

• Projection suggest by 2021 every year 620000

warehousing and logistics robot unit will be share
• Global sales will be $22.4 billion in same year
• With the rise of 4.0 industrial revolution like AI,
Machine learning and IOT automation is become
sophisticated
• AI will be a major driven in the manufacturing
industry
• Badger is automated robot which take of
inventory in the Amazon retail store and check the
inventory level and check accuracy , they can set
your outlet betten than human, for example
