Adjustment in the school
environment
The teacher complains that often students at school cannot adjust well to the rules at
school or their peers. For example there are students who often neglect their assignments
so the teacher considers that the child is defiant and is immediately drawn to the BK room
because it is considered to violate the rules. There are also those who act disrespectfully
with one teacher so that other teachers assume that the child is making bad behavior and
giving inconvenience to the surrounding environment (Teacher Interview BK, 2010).
Self Adjustment Process
Adjustment is the process of how individuals achieve self-balance and meet the needs in
accordance with their environment. Adaptation responses, good or bad, can simply be seen as
an individual effort to reduce taua away from tension and to maintain equitable conditions of
equilibrium. In the process of adjustment, conflicts, pressures, and frustrations can arise and
individuals are encouraged to examine various possible behaviors to free themselves from
tension.
Common and essential elements in all frustrating situations are: motivation, frustration, varied
responses, and solutions to reduce problems, tension with some form of response. Motivation
takes a variety of forms and each form can be directed to obstacles or frustration caused by
several aspects of reality, for example: parental restrictions, physical barriers, social rules, and
the like.
Individuals are said to be successful in making adjustments themselves if he can meet their
needs in reasonable ways or if it can be accepted by the environment without harming or
disturbing the environment.
