CFE 102 The Commandments
CFE 102 The Commandments
be understood as
positive response to the
challenge of keeping
the loving relationship.
Clearly, this signals a
paradigm shift from the
negative sense of the
imperatives as
burdensome obligations to
keep.
Instead these guides must
be seen as responsible acts
of freedom in the context
of the Covenant as loving
relationship.

• Given by God to Moses
• Given in Mt. Sinai after they
escaped from Egypt

People of God had the tendency
to rebel
• All through out the TORAH the
commandments were added.
1st COMMANDMENT
PURPOSE:
Unify everyone in God’s name.

PURPOSE:
The proper use of His name. For
Worship, Prayer, Thanksgiving, not
for self-service designed especially
to trample others.

would be more appreciative of what
has been done not only for that
week but in a broad perspective.

It urges us to honor, respect and
protect the basic unit of society and
the authority figures.

To discontinue the needless
violence and promote peace and
harmony within the community.

DEFINITION
• ADULTERY – the sin of a
MARRIED person having sexual
relationships other than their
spouse.
6TH COMMANDMENT
CONTEXT
The story of unfaithfulness is
nothing new and it was evident
even in those times. The gravity of
the offence differs if you are a man
or woman.
6TH COMMANDMENT
PURPOSE
To teach the people to be faithful
with the covenant made between
the couple just like how God wants
his covenant be kept.
7TH COMMANDMENT
CONTEXT
Slavery was a big thing in the past.
It withholds the person from its
freedom just because of their lowly
status and lack of wealth.
7TH COMMANDMENT
PURPOSE
To prevent another person from
robbing his fellow freeman of his
freedom.
8TH COMMANDMENT

a consciousness of justice and
freedom. The simplest of lies can
set an innocent person behind bars.
8TH COMMANDMENT
PURPOSE
To set the people on the path
towards truth and justice.
9TH and 10TH COMMANDMENT
CONTEXT
Even then people have no complete
hold of their inordinate desires.

To be conscious of the possibility of
breaking the harmonious

community.
