INTRODUCTION
For investigation targets, in fields llike Biology, the need of
identifying birds is important and necessary. Nevertheless this is
not an easy task due to that in their natural conditions they
don’t like to be disturb. They are also small and can “dissapear”
between the trees. An other obstacle in the identification of birds
without special equipment is that the human ear is not trained
fur such labor.
INTRODUCTION
The birds’ song has different frecuencies so they are diferenciables
between species. The main idea of this proyect is to make filters
to reduce the noise in the data base, get the best coeficients of the
sample and recognice 8 species that exist in Universidad del
Valle. They are:

 Coereva Flaveola (Pltaanero)  Tdirostrum Cinerum (Titirijí Común)

 Myiozetetes Cayanensis (Bienteveo  Troglodytes Aedon (Chochín Criollo)

Alicastaño)  Turdus Ignobilis (Zorzal Piquinegro)

 Pitangus Sulphuratus (Bienteveo Común)  Vallenus Chilensis (Avefría Tero)

 Thraupis Epíscopus (Tangara Azuleja)

INTRODUCTION
After the recognition is a last stage; hardware to reproduce the
bird song by the USB port. We use this hardware to reproduce
the original signal and the signal enframmed.
GENERAL OBJETIVE

• Recognice the specie of the bird that’s singing in the

audio sample by applying different methods of digital
signal processing and an artificial neural network
SPECIFIC OBJETIVES

• Apply a filter to the data base to clean the samples

• Extract different features of each sample
• Train an Artificial Neural Network for the recognition of the bird
specie
• Reproduce the sample and the frame in the hardware output designed
via USB
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

• 20 LPC coefficients in 20ms frames in the principal frame (6%)

• 75 LPC coefficients in the whole frame (24%)
• 75 LPC coefficients and 14 frecuencial parameters in the whole frame
(36%)
• Use the Principal Component Analisis to reduce the amount of
parameters (39%)
• Add white and pink noise to the data base to increase the amoung of
vectors for the training of the artificial neural network (44%)
• Add central moments and standardized moments at the extracted
parameters and use more frames of each simple (57%)
• Use different train methods of the artificial neural network and add a
clasification algorithm (68%)
IMPLEMENTED SOLUTION
There is implemented a general bandpass filter at the input to
reduce the environmental noise to make easier the clasification.
After the filter applyed, there is a procedure for the features
extraction that is presented ahead
FILTER
In order to recognize which is the bird that is singing we should have a
database free of noise, so this is done using band filters.

The band filters separates frequency intervals, allowing the pass of a part
of the spectrum and denies the pass of the rest.

This type of filter can to divide the signal respect to the noise out of their
useful band, so is based on the different frequency content between the
noise out of band and the useful signal.
FILTER
One filter must be designed for each one of the 8 species to
recognize.

The band to filter is recognized in the spectrum of frequencies

and is selected by the higher peaks.

FEATURES EXTRACTION - FFT
In fact a unique FIR filter is implemented in each sample whit the last procedure

CLASIFICATION
After the Neural Network, there is implemented an algorithm to
help the recognition of the bird specie.

The neural network is applyed to three different vectors from the

same simple so the final result is determinated if two of the
vectors have the same clasification,
