TEACHING DEMO

“Hazard Identification, Risk

Management and Risk Control”

Prepared by:
LIEZEL LEBARNES
l Good morning Students!
l Before we start our Class.
l Who wants to volunteer for the Prayer..Yes,
Aileen..
l Ok, Lets put our self in a holy presence of
God...Amen..
l Alright, Good Morning again class. You may
now take your seat.
l Ok, I want you to listen to our new lesson for
today.
l Let me introduce myself first. I am teacher
Liezel Lebarnes, Your teacher in Computer
Hardware Servicing.
l Right, let’s review what we’ve discussed
yesterday?
l Anyone who can tell what we have
discussed?
l Yes, Lizzy.
l Right, Our lesson yesterday is all about
preparing and interpreting technical drawing.
l Now, what is Drawing?
l Yes, Christian.
l Very Good. It is an art of representing
any object by means of lines and
shades.
l Now, what is flowchart?
l Yes, Duchy.
Very Good. It is a diagram that uses
graphic symbols to depict the nature and
flow of the steps in a process.
l What are the elements of a flowchart?
l Anyone? Yes, Catelyn. Very Good. The
elements are terminator, processes, sub-
processes, decision, connection and arrow
lines.
l Before we move on to our topic,
l you’re going to think of a
l possible situation on what will happen on
this picture.
l what’s the possible situation to happen
l if you’re going to see this..(tudlo)
l Okay, Very Good
l Someone will trip, falls or hurt
l Okay next.
l what’s the possible situation to happen
l if you’re going to see this?(tudlo)
l Yes, Very Good!
l It will cause electric shock or burn
l Ok class what did you noticed or observe during
this activity.
l Yes, we observed that when computer cables,
l Plugs, wires are not properly connected,
l Arranged or fixed on its place
l There’s always risk when neglected.
l In this lesson,
l you will learn to identify computer hazards and risks,
l Assess health and safety when working with computers
l and appreciate health and safety measures when working.
l Alright, Lets define first the word hazard.
l Hazard, is a situation that has the potential to harm the
health and safety of people.
l Next, Lets define the word OSH or occupational safety
and health
l OSH, It is a planned system of working to prevent illness
and injury where you work by recognizing and identifying
hazards and risks.
l So, There are 3 steps used to manage health and
safety at work
they are:
l Spot the hazard
l Assess the risk and
l Make the changes
l There are 4 Common Hazards encountered
by computer technicians and users.
They are
l Physical Hazards
l Mechanical Hazards
l Chemical Hazards and
l Electric Shock Hazards
l Now, what is
l Physical Hazard.
l Physical hazard is an agent, factor or circumstance that can cause
harm with contact.
l One of the most common physical hazards
l involving computer technicians is
l cables running across the floor.
l Mechanical Hazard.
l Mechanical hazard
l are created as a result of either powered or manual use of tools,
equipment or machinery and plant.
l When working on electronic equipment,
l ask yourself:
l Is there any way this equipment could hurt me?
l You might stick your hand in a printer
l and suddenly the paper feed arm moves,
l feeding not only paper through the printer,
l but a piece of your finger too.
l When working on electronic equipment
l always be alert to any possibility
l of being hurt by moving parts,
l hot components, or sharp edges.
l Chemical Hazard
l A chemical hazard is a type of occupational hazard caused by exposure to chemicals
in the workplace. Exposure to chemicals in the workplace can cause acute or long-
term detrimental health effects.
l There is a wide array of chemicals
l used with electronic equipment.
l There are display cleaning chemicals,
l keyboard cleaning chemicals,
l compressed gas dirt and dust removers,
l and many cleaning solvents.
l Some of these chemicals can be harmful
l if accidentally swallowed,
l get on bare skin,
l or get in eyes.
l Before using any chemicals for electronic equipment
l always read the warnings
l and instructions on the label.
l Electric Shock Hazard
l Electrical hazard or Electric Shock may be defined as “Dangerous
event or condition due to direct or indirect electrical contact with
energized conductor or equipment and from which a person may
sustain electrical injury from shock, damage to workplace
environment, damage to property or both.
l Inside the computers and electronic equipment,
l there is a range of voltages from 3.3 volts to 25 volts,
l most of these are harmless.
l But at the power supply,
l you'll find line voltage,
l which is a lethal 220 volts.
l Most of the time while working inside computers
l and electronic equipment,
l you'll want them unplugged from the wall socket.
l If you need to work on equipment
l while it is still plugged in or powered up,
l remove all jewelry and wrist watches.
l So, what have you learned in our lesson? Ok you
learned about how to identify computer hazards
and risks, how to assess health and safety when
working with computers and appreciate health
and safety measures when working.
l Any questions about our topic?
l None?
l Ok Now, I want you to prepare a sheet of paper to
answer this exercise.
l Do you have your paper now?
l I guess you are prepared already.
l Let’s Start!!
l Alright! Time’s up!
l Are you done answering?
l Well I guess you are.
l Now, This will be our answer.
l Did you get the same answer?
l Very Good!
l For your Assignment.
l I want you to answer the chart.
l I have prepared to you.
l Please submit your assignment
l On our next meeting.
l So, this ends our lesson
l about Hazard Identification, Risk
Management, and Risk Control.
l I hope you have understand our
lesson and learned something.
l See you on our next meeting.
l Goodbye Class and Thank you for
listening!
