INTRODUCTION
Education is the best process of development.
Not only in sphere of education but in every
sphere of life there is tough competition. Due to
such competitions human beings are suffering
from personal problems, Professional and
Social stress. Students usually experience high
levels of stress and aggression. Evidence
indicates their aggressive behaviours are seen
commonly among the university and college
students including degree and professional
colleges.
STRESS: Stress may be understood as a state of tension
experienced by individual facing extraordinary
demands, constraints and opportunities. Stress occurs
when individual is not able to solve his or her problems
and unable to face the reality.
AGGRESSION: Aggression can be conceptualized as an
observable manifestation of aggressive behaviours which
is defined as any act intended to cause harm, pain and
injury.
PROFESSIONAL COLLEGES: Professional colleges put
the emphasis on professional development. Professional
colleges are specifically oriented toward professional
needs. These colleges improve knowledge, skills,
competences useful for specific professions.
STATEMENT OF THE STUDY

OBJECTIVES
The was carried out to achieve the following
objectives:
1.To study and compare the level of Stress among
students of professional colleges.
(a) To study and compare the level of Stress among
students of Medical and Engineering colleges.
(b) To study and compare the level of Stress among
students of Medical and Law colleges.
(c) To study and compare the level of Stress among
students of Engineering and Law colleges.
2. To study and compare the level of Aggression among
students of professional colleges.
(a) To study and compare the level of Aggression among
students of Medical and Engineering colleges.
(b) To study and compare the level of Aggression among
students of Medical and Law colleges.
(c) To study and compare the level of Aggression among
students of Engineering and Law colleges.
3. To study the correlation between Stress and
Aggression among students of professional colleges.
HYPOTHESES
1. There is no significant difference in level of
Stress among students of professional colleges.
(a) There is no significant difference in level of
Stress among students of Medical and
Engineering colleges.
(b) There is no significant difference in level of
Stress among students of Medical and Law
colleges.
(c) There is no significant difference in level of
Stress among students of Engineering and Law
colleges.
2. There is no significant difference in level of
Aggression among students of professional colleges.
(a) There is no significant difference in level of
Aggression among students of Medical and
Engineering colleges.
(b) There is no significant difference in level of
Aggression among students of Medical and Law
colleges.
(c) There is no significant difference in level of
Aggression among students of Engineering and Law
colleges.
3. There is no significant correlation between Stress and
Aggression among students of professional colleges.
RESEARCH DESIGN
Research design is the conceptual structure
within which research is conducted. Research
design is also known as blue print for the
collection, measurement and analysis of data. In
the present study Descriptive method of
investigation was used to study Stress and
Aggression among students of professional
colleges.
SAMPLE
All the items of any field of inquiry constitute a universe
and population. It is not possible to study the whole
population. Therefore, it is always convenient to pick up
sample from the whole population that means the
selection of few items from the population. The selected
items are technically called Sample. In the present study
simple Random sampling technique was used. The
present study was carried out on the sample of 500
students studying in Professional Colleges of Amritsar
city.
TOOLS USED
The following tools were used to collect
the data for the present study
1. Aggression Scale By Kumari Roma
Pal and Dr.Tasneem Naqvi (1986)
2. 2. Self prepared Tool on Stress
STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES
Different statistical techniques were
employed to obtain concise picture of
whole data so that it could be easily
comprehended. To study the hypotheses
in study, the following techniques were
used: Mean (M), Standard Deviation
(SD), Correlation(r), and Critical ratio t-
test are calculated from raw scores.
DELIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
1. This study was delimited to first and
second year students of professional
colleges including Medical, Engineering
and Law colleges.
2. This study was delimited to the
professional colleges of Amritsar city only.
3. This study was delimited to 500 student.
CONCLUSIONS
The following conclusions have been drawn based upon
the present study and its findings.
Conclusions regarding the variables of stress and
aggression among students of professional colleges.
1. STRESS
(a) There exists significant difference in level of Stress
among students of Medical colleges and Engineering
colleges.
(b) There exists significant difference in level of Stress
among students of Medical colleges and Law colleges.
(c) There exists significant difference in level of Stress
among students of Engineering colleges and Law
colleges.
2. AGGRESSION
(a) There exists no significant difference in level of
Aggression among students of Medical colleges and
Engineering colleges.
(b) There exists significant difference in level of
Aggression among students of Medical colleges and Law
colleges.
(c) There exists significant difference in level of
Aggression among students of Engineering colleges and
Law colleges.
3. CORRELATION
There exists significant and positive correlation between
Stress and Aggression among students of professional
colleges.
SUGGESTIONS FOR FUTURE
RESEARCH
1. The study can be made more comprehensive by
extending it to other professional colleges which will
make the result more valid and reliable.
2. The study can be made exhaustive by examining
other variables like anxiety, frustration, anger.
3. Some intervention programmes to reduce academic
stress, anxiety, aggression may be developed.
4. The study can be extended to other districts of the
State.
EDUCATIONAL IMPLICATIONS
1. Remedial educational programmes at individual level can be
followed in professional colleges.
2. Nationwide surveys to study the problem of Stress and
Aggression among professional students may be carried out.
3. Students may be motivated to participate in various co-
curricular activities conducted by the institution.
4. Proper guidelines to cope effectively with factors that cause
Stress and Aggression among students may be developed.
5. Orientation talks, Seminars, Workshops and Extension
lectures on how to handle Stress and Aggression may be
organised in Professional Colleges and other Colleges from
time to time.
