Elements of Dance
line dance is a
choreographed dance with a
repeated sequence of steps in
which a group of
people dance in one or
more lines or rows, all facing
either each other or in the same
direction, and executing the
steps at the same time. Unlike
circle dancing, line
dancers are not in physical
contact with each other.
Elements of Dance- what we put
together to come up with a dance
1. BODY
BODY BASE-pertains to which part of the body is
on the ground
BODY SHAPE – form when you performing a dance
SYMMETRICAL – identical of movements on
both sides
ASYMETRICAL- sides movements are different
BODY PART pertains to the particular part of the
body that is mainly used in performing a
particular dance
2. ENERGY-
SUSTAINED
– When you do a continuous and
smooth movements
PERCUSSIVE– When you do accented
powerful moves
VIBRATORY – When you do shaking
movements
SWINGING- When you do a swing
movements
SUSPENDED- When energy hangs on the air.
3. SPACE
DIRECTION – Where your moving to
SIZE – How big your step/ action is.
LEVEL – The height of the action when
performing a dance.
low, middle, high
FOCUS- Where the dancer is looking at
while doing the steps in a particular dance
