Language Through Literature: An Evaluation
Definition of Language

The principal method of human communication which consists of words used in a structured and
conventional way and conveyed by speech, writing or gesture.
Language is a system of conventional spoken, manual or written symbols by means of which
human beings, as numbers of social group and participants in its culture who express themselves.
The function of language include communication, the expression of identity, play, imaginative
expression, and emotional release.
Definition of literature

Literature is a body of written works. The name has traditionally been applied to those
imaginative works of poetry and prose distinguished by the intentions of their execution.
Literature may be classified according to a variety of systems, including language, national origin,
historical period, genre and subject matter.
Relationship Between Language And Literature

Literature is published lobe of some part of a language with a specific purpose and specific
author. As authors and purposes are different, literature only showcases a bit of language ; in
living speakers and living speech. Language is a far larger universe, literature is only some part
of it.
It is usually language that influences literature, but to an extent literature can influence language
as well, just as with all kind of art that affect us culturally and Semiotically.
The Role Of Literature In Learning Language

• Literature offers experiences that can only be accessed through the target language.
• Literature gives students a unique understanding of the target culture.
• Literature makes seamless connections between the language and other subjects.
• Literature provides better understanding of the universal nature of language.
• Literature teaches us to explore our own experience of using words, clauses, phrases
to the study of language.
• As language activate the impression of learner's it helps to develop their linguistic
skills.
Conclusion

Learning literature has a valuable effect on readers as it develops our thoughts,


ideas and also helps us to learn the use of linguistic features properly.
