BLUE HAT THINKING –
ORIGANIZATION
• Blue Hat helps keep the discussion moving and ideas flowing, encouraging the other
directors to switch their thinking between the different perspectives.

• Management and organization of thinking


• They are calm and in control
• They think of the sky above

• Blue hat allows us to focus (specify the discussion)


• Outline and design the program
• Results (summarize) and draw conclusions
• Monitor and control the discussion
BLUE HAT THINKING –

• concerned with metacognition (processes used to plan, monitor, and assess one's
understanding and performance. Metacognition includes a critical awareness of
a) one's thinking and learning and
b) oneself as a thinker and learner

• Example: we've heard your critism of this plan. what we want now is some positive
assessment so lets put your yellow hats firmly and tell us what you see there.

• Benefit: all the hats together can create clutter limiting problem solving hence a
more structured approach proves beneficial for decision making
Example
• What is the problem we want to solve? What are the relevant points
to consider? Who should be in the meeting? Which Hats should we
use in what sequence?
Example:
• How do we get 30,000 votes? What influences voter turnout? Who
knows about this? What Hats should we use in order to solve this?
