• Ounce glass, minim glass, teaspoon,
dropper
• Drinking water in a glass or feeding cup
• Mortar and pestle
• Medicine slab and spatula
• Duster or towel
• Kidney tray and paper bag
• Plastic measuring cups and souffle cups
• Medicine cards
PREPARATION OF THE CLIENT
PROCUDURE
1. Wash Hands
2.READ THE PHYSICIANS
ORDER&COMPARE IT WITH THE
MEDICINE CARD
3.AFTER READING THE MEDICINE
CARD TAKE THE APPROPRIATE
MEDICINE FROM THE
SHELF.COMPARE THE LABLE WITH
THE THE MEDICINE CARD
4.WITH THE MEDICATION CARD
INSIGHT,MEASURE THE
MEDICATION.CALCULATE THE DOSE IF
NECESSARY
5.TAKE THE MEDICINE AS
FOLLOWS
• Shake the tablets and capsules into lid of
the container first and then into the
medicine cups. take the required number
• Pour liquids from the side of the bottle
away from the lable.
• Hold the measuring cup at the eye level
and place the the thumbnail at the correct
measurement mark and pour the medicine
with care.
• Read lower meniscus of the fluid for
accuracy.
• 6.WIPE THE MOUTH OF THE BOTTLE
AND CLOSE THE BOTTLE TIGHTLY.
return the containers back into the shelf.
• 7.PLACE THE CARD WITH
MEDICATION ON THE TRAY.NO
MEDICATION SHOULD BE KEPT
WITHOUT MEDICINE CARD.
• 8.PREPARE EACH MEDICATION INTO
SEPARATE CONTAINERS
• 9.LOCK THE MEDICINE
CABINET AND TAKE
MEDICINES TO THE BEDSIDE
• 10.IDENTIFY THE CLIENT WITH THE
MEDICINE CARD.
• Read the name on the door or at the
bedside.
• Call client by name, in a questioning
voice to get a response.
• Ask the client the repeat his name.
• Verify identification with staff member
11.ADMINISTER MEDICINES
• Give the water or fluid to moisten the mouth
• Give medication one at a time
• Stay with the client until he has taken the
medication.
• Check the client’s mouth
• Provide water to drink after the medicines are
swallowed
• Place the ounce glass in the bowel of water.
AFTER CARE OF THECLIENT
AND ARTICLES
• Remove the towel and wipe the face with it.
• Position of the client
• Take all articles to utility room. wash and dry all
articles.
• Wash hands
• Record medications
• Return to the client to observe.
• Return the medication cards to storage area
